unsere Geschichte

Our History

The late Isolde Seigel and Bruno Ziegler, founders of NBP, were born in Bavaria, Germany, specifically Nuremberg, and originally met during their academic career, at a student union meeting. As many other universities around the world, the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg hosted an overwhelming majority of progressive, young people, often at odds with local parties and people and frequently engaged in protests and counter-protests, even in recent times. It is such environment which drew the two founders away from the city and the country, finding jobs separately on different stations. For a time, the idea of NBP could have been lost forever. In 2446, however, Bruno reached out, following an incident at their alma mater which saw the building damaged by a handmade explosive device. Concerned for any friends remaining in the city, they met and visited, and eventually agreed that the situation was out of hand. A sense of loss, in a population unwilling to abandon self-destructive ideals. After minor consumption of recreational narcotics and a sleepless night, the two came up with the idea to exploit these ideals for profit, and for good. Though Idris, affiliated with PMCG, took some convincing to grant a loan, the two managed to start their business, Neu-Bayern Privatarmee. Their first model was an SKF, Tochter-1, which at the time had no designation, constructed in a small orbital factory still fresh from its sale to NBP. Nowadays, Tochter-1 is the Strategic Division Leader overlooking security operations for the company.

As more SKF models were produced, the demand for similar models and a curious happening involving a fanfiction at 2 am led Isolde to propose additional, different IPC types. This eventually led to the creation of the SGF model, then the TAF, MNF and the others. Since then, the company has grown exponentially, becoming publicly traded and establishing itself to systems and clients that had qualms with PMCG or HGI. Though competition with PMCG is fierce, NBP's own line of production and its variety has kept it above water - at least legally. Raids and assaults by rival PMCs and groups are not an uncommon occurrence. This, however, had ironically led NBP to begin producing gunships, then picket ships, all the way to corvettes and a destroyer prototype, in a paper tiger-style arms war between the companies.Still, NBP's spirit has never been rooted in conquest or profit maximization. Much to the Finance Team's complaints, the company is known for offering services for free to stations, individuals or NGOs that find themselves struggling or under pressure. This has led to cases such as the evacuation of Tri-Star Systems' Icarus Solar Research Facility, the skirmish between NBP and Nexus Security at Wolf 359's Emerald Port station, and the shining example of NBP's will to stand out: the Sacrifice of NBPS Schwertfisch.

In 2460, the NBPS Schwertfisch, a light vessel used to move IPCs between assignments, picked up cruise liner Shining Grace's distress call, only to find itself between two pirate ships and the cruise, whose nuclear reactor was failing rapidly. The ship's helmsman, Geliebte-14, transmitted a single message to NBP's Strategic Command Center, before the ship was lost: "All circumstances and possibilities see the innocents dying, or I. The choice is mine to make." The Shining Grace made it to port, and subsequent search operations discovered a debris field consistent with a nuclear explosion, and three distinct vessels destroyed. Geliebte-14 was honored at Neu-Bayern Basisstation, Earth's orbit, with a small statue that sits at the arrivals docks. A plaque below it reads:

"For those who choose honor and grace."

SKF (Sicherheitskommando Frauen), Security and Command:
Commonly referred to as Mutter, mother, given the attachment that units in their command feel towards them. SKF models are tall and generally reserved, speaking few words to anyone but their subordinates. They are the leader figure for other units, and have as such developed a sort of authoritative, snobby attitude. Mother units don't tend to be friends with other Mothers.

SGF (Sicherheit Grundlegend Frauen), Security Basic:
Commonly referred to as Entchen, duckling, given their tendency to huddle up and form groups, particularly near SKF models' legs. SGF models are short and nimble, and meant to be frontline troops, grunts, and if necessary, gun fodder. They are talkative, expressive and friendly, as opposed to their leaders, and have much more open personalities. They are, af of 2526, the second most common model produced.

TAF (Technik und Atmosphärik Frauen), Engineering and Atmospherics:
Commonly referred to as Hase, hare, given the animal's tendency to live alone and the model's similar preference. They are of average height, and typically shy and quiet, a personality intended for generally remote, solitary tasks such as engineering. They, however, appear to be the most emotional models, often requiring trinkets and decorations to feel at ease.

MNF (Medizinischer Notfall Frauen), Medical Emergency:
Commonly referred to as Welpe, puppy, for their frenetic nature. They are, similarly to Ducklings, short and fast on their feet. Similarly still to Ducklings, Puppies tend to huddle in groups, but are typically more professional and don't enjoy the gossip and chit-chat that Ducklings partake in. Puppies are often seen in small groups or duos, discussing medical matters. Some models have turned to dark humor given the field of work.

KOF (Kundenservice und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit), Customer Service and Public Relations:
The cheapest, most requested model in NBP's lineup. Hostesses, bartenders, hotel clerks, waitresses, cooks, hydroponic specialists and more. Commonly referred to as Hummeln, bumblebees, given their hard-working attitude and extremely friendly behavior, these models are ubiquitous on most stations, ships, cruise liners, offices, restaurants and even government embassies. The Hummel model is the quiet workhorse of NBP's production, pushing their recognition and brand image to the farthest corner of the stars. Wherever you go, you'll find a bumblebee, working diligently.

FLF (Fracht und Logistik), Cargo and Logistics:
Commonly referred to as Elch, moose, due to their size and height, are the company's biggest model. Tall, imposing machines usually wearing equipment to aid in heavy lifting, with mechanical modifications to allow them an outstanding strength, but simultaneously making them bulky and thick. They are friendly and at times clumsy or bumbling. Apparently, they are also great huggers.

PFF (Psionische Forschung Frauen), Psionic Research:
The latest model. Commonly known as Hexe, witch, given their company-issued psionic positronics. Witches are short, and generally have trouble befriending other models due to their abilities, at times considered frightening or strange.

ADF (Allgemeiner Dienst Frauen), General Service:
Commonly referred to as Leopard, leopard: much like the animal, Leopard models can adapt to the situation at hand (referring to the feline's camouflage) and can be considered by some at NBP to be the most advanced model - though a little intimidating. Leopards are sometimes criticized as bland and boring, but their key feature is their adaptability. They are designed with a "blank" personality, and allowed to evolve naturally through work and social interaction. This has caused some unintended side effects, and some Leopard models have been recalled due to excessive eccentricity or strange behaviors.

Künstliche Intelligenz

AI Systems - Paladin

AI-COM//PLDN (originally Künstliche Intelligenz Führung Paladin, KIF//PLDN, translated for ease of use), typically referred to as Paladin, is a defense project by Neu-Bayern Privatarmee’s new Silicon Research Division. Paladin is capable of efficiently responding to all threats on a station while keeping minimal power use and interference with organic personnel - this stems from feedback received by crew members aboard corporate and government vessels which highlight a dislike of active intervention by AI systems.Paladin’s main personality core is neutral, professional and uses the third person to maintain distance from the crew it serves. As the name implies, it is modeled after the archetypical crusader/warrior class present in mythos and classical roleplaying games. Paladin exhibits a noble, distinguished attitude, and tends to speak in a detached, cold tone. Its main priorities, typical of an NBP product, are the respect of international law and sophont rights - as such, it can be inferred that Paladin will always act to maximize these two parameters.Paladin is currently undergoing active testing on several HGI LLC stations and two Alliance research ships. Further information may be requested by contacting the NBP customer service center. Below are coded definitions that may be used by Paladin to define situations, alerts or similar: these are used to minimize response times and provide basic encryption. Anything that is not listed within this document is classified to NBP staff - all the definitions have been translated from German to Basic.

Kleinkaliberwaffen

Small-Caliber Weapons

NBP's weapon manufacturing mostly relies on large-scale, naval artillery production for minor navies to field, or small-caliber weapons. Primarily, we provide modified models of popular market pistols, revolvers and SMGs, focusing on reliability, user comfort and customization.

Type-75 Viper - "Protektor" Modification
Offering a flared magwell, titanium-plasteel internals, a reinforced trigger mechanism and a 100-year warranty. The Protektor is NBP's first and best example of German engineering, taking a basic firearm and elevating it to an elite, fearsome piece of equipment, commonly fielded by the company's IPCs.

Eu-K508 K-38 Masterpiece - "Einhorn" Modification
Favored by frontier rangers and investigators for stopping power and style, the K-38 is revisited by NBP with a strengthened barrel, smoother mechanisms and latch release and an in-house modification to the drum to allow faster reloading. Also available is a custom grip fitted to the user's handprint.

Type-84 Pathos - "Drache" Modification
With a slightly slower rate of fire, the Drache modification package promises to turn an unsteady, rattling piece of equipment into a reliable, solid firearm. Replacing some of the cheaper components and reinforcing the frame allows the a firm, low-recoil profile perfect for security agents and bodyguards.

EIN-12 Enforcer - "Flechette" Modification
The boldest in NBP's lineup, the Flechette is a minor modification to an already almost perfect shotgun, tightening the spread and swapping the pump mechanism with a customized model to offer, as usual, more reliable and long-lasting use, even with little maintenance.

Spielanleitung

Instructions for Play

Anyone is free to play an NBP IPC.The naming convention is NBP (German word)-number, wherein the German word can roughly be any noun: an animal, a thing, etc. Every model knows about the existence of the others, what they are, what the company is. Every model was created in an NBP Assembly Plant somewhere in Sol or a neighboring system, and usually either worked alone, in a company station or on assignment with a few other models. You work for NBP, and are employed under contract with whichever the primary shareholder is. HGI/SCC/whatever has an agreement with NBP, and they generally employ IPCs which were damaged, malfunctioning, acting strangely or otherwise to work on remote stations as a method of recovery and therapy. This is to justify the lack of NBP IPCs despite their apparent popularity, and to give you a little leeway compared to what the models are supposed to act like - though you should try sticking to this guide. The character should be an IPC, and should have the "Frauen-model synthetic" species name. The age is not particularly important. All Frauen tend to have black hair and professional hairstyles, pale skin (achieved with the human markings, I recommend adding a tinge of green to offset the pink color the markings have) and, if you'd like, doll joint markings for the robotic joints. Models described as tall should be somewhere between average and max size. You should pick the German accent and Sol Common. All the other traits are up to you, but the Witch model should have Psionics, and I recommend flare protection and night vision for security models.Frauen should always dress professionally and cleanly, and should act according to their stated personality within reasonable limits. They are not particularly robotic, and are supposed to be indistinguishable from humans. Suffice to say, they should generally be lesbians. This is not a rule I can enforce, obviously, but that is the whole joke, so it's recommended. It's also recommended to mention that they're a Neu-Bayern Privatarmee Synthetic in their description.
